SQUID - Swimming Queers United in Denver

SQUID Swim Team was founded in 1992 by a group of athletes preparing for the 1994 Gay Games. More than 80 members now participate in our swimming program. Recent accomplishments include 5th place at the 2009 and 2010 COMSA SCY Championships and 1st place at the Inaugural 2009 Rocky Mountain Autumn Gold Rush Invitational and the 2010 COMSA LCM Championships!

Our members include top-notch competitive and fitness swimmers, open water swimmers and triathletes. Some of our members simply like to join in our social activities. We welcome anyone, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity to our workouts. Whatever the reasons for joining, you'll find that we have great workouts, fun social events, and exciting competitions. We participate in local meets with other masters teams in Colorado, and national and international competitions with other lesbian/gay swim teams.

New swimmers always welcome!

IMPORTANT NOTICE!

SQUID has yet to negotiate a workable rental agreement with Denver Parks & Recreation. Team Council is therefore making a contingency plan to have informal practices during DP&R lap swim hours. This plan is intended to assure we maintain some group team practices while we continue to negotiate.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, lap swim will be at Montclair Rec Center from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. On Saturdays, it will be at Rude Rec Center from 9:30 to 11 a.m.

To swim at the rec centers during lap swim hours, you will need a DP&R membership. You can either just pay the drop-in fee for the rec center or pay for a full annual membership ($369 @ regional rec centers which include Montclair & Rude).

Watch your e-mails and the Facebook page so you will know more about the informal workouts we will be holding. We will obviously have to be considerate of lap swimmers and not spread out as much as we normally would … but as DP&R members, we are certainly entitled to swim during lap swim time – and we intend to do so, to maintain our team!

USMS 2012 REGISTRATION
Its that time of year again...to renew your USMS registration! Total annual cost is $40.
If you plan to compete for SQUID at any time next year in a USMS sanctioned swim meet, please consider registering (otherwise those points you score won't count).

Even if you don't compete we highly encourage ALL swimmers to register, as USMS provides swimming-specific liability insurance for the team for all registrants amongst other perks.

Important to note, last year SQUID decided to become its own club (SQID) and is no longer a workout group under COMSA. Please make sure you make the appropriate selection during registration.
